Last updated: 28 October 2026
LFG — Looking For Group ("LFG", "we", "us" or "our") is a platform that helps gamers find each other, form groups and play together. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose and protect your personal information when you use the LFG mobile app, our website at lfgapp.com.au and any related services (together, the "Services").
We handle personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), and we apply the same standards to users everywhere. By using the Services, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
Information we collect
We collect the following categories of information when you register, use the Services or contact us:
Account information. When you create an account we collect your email address, username, date of birth and password. If you sign in using a third-party provider such as Apple or Google, we receive your name and email address from that provider.
Profile and gameplay information. You may choose to add gaming preferences to your profile, such as the games you play, your platforms, play times, skill level and microphone availability. Your username and this profile information are visible to other LFG users.
Communications. Messages you send through LFG's chat and group features, and any feedback or support requests you submit, are stored so the Services can function.
Device and technical information. We automatically collect information such as device type, operating system version, app version, language, approximate region derived from your IP address, and crash or performance logs.
Usage information. We collect information about how you interact with the Services, including features used, groups joined, sessions created and screens viewed.
- We do not collect precise location data, contacts, photos or your device microphone or camera unless a feature you actively use requires it and you grant permission.
- We do not collect payment card details. If paid features are introduced, payments will be processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play and we will update this policy before launch.
How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate and maintain the Services, including matching you with other players and powering chat and group features
- Create and manage your account and authenticate your sign-in
- Personalise your experience, such as recommending groups and games that match your preferences
- Send service communications such as group invites, match notifications and essential account notices
- Respond to your questions, feedback and support requests
- Monitor, detect and prevent fraud, spam, abuse, cheating and violations of our community standards
- Analyse usage trends so we can improve performance, fix bugs and develop new features
- Comply with our legal obligations and enforce our terms
Legal bases for processing
Where the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies, we rely on the following legal bases: performing our contract with you (to provide the Services you signed up for); our legitimate interests (to secure, improve and promote the Services, provided your rights are not overridden); consent (where you actively give it, such as for optional notifications or analytics cookies); and compliance with legal obligations.
You may withdraw consent at any time through the app settings or by contacting us, without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.
How we share your information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in the following circumstances:
With other users. Your username, profile information and the content you post are visible to other LFG users as part of the social nature of the Services.
With service providers. We engage trusted third parties to help us operate the Services, such as cloud hosting, authentication, analytics, crash reporting, push notification and customer support providers. They process information on our behalf under contract and only for the purposes described in this policy.
For legal reasons. We may disclose information where required by law, legal process or a valid request from a government or law enforcement authority, or to protect the rights, property and safety of LFG, our users and the public.
Business transfers. If we are involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, user information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors and users interact with the Services, such as which pages and features are most popular. Google Analytics collects information such as device type, operating system, approximate location (country or city level) and events performed in the app. We do not use Google Analytics to advertise to you or to build advertising profiles.
You can opt out of Google Analytics for the web via Google's opt-out tools, and you can limit ad tracking or reset your advertising identifier in your device settings. Crash reporting and performance data may also be collected to keep the app stable and secure.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your personal information only as long as necessary to provide the Services and for the purposes described in this policy. Account and profile information are retained for as long as your account is active. Message history is retained while your account is active so you can access your conversations.
When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your profile and account information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain certain records by law, where retention is needed to resolve disputes or enforce our terms, or where backup copies are deleted in the ordinary course of our backup cycles.
- You can request deletion of your account and personal information at any time from the app settings or by emailing us — see Contact us below.
Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights over your personal information:
- Access — request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
- Correction — ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or out of date
- Deletion — ask us to delete your account and personal information
- Portability — request a machine-readable copy of information you provided to us
- Objection and restriction — object to or ask us to limit certain processing
- Complaint — lodge a complaint with us, or with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) or your local data protection authority
Children's privacy
The Services are not directed to children under 13 (or under 15 in some jurisdictions where a higher age applies). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the applicable minimum age. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child below the applicable age, we will delete it promptly.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has created an account, please contact us so we can remove it.
Data security
We use industry-standard technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including encryption of data in transit, access controls and least-privilege practices for our team. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we review and improve our safeguards continuously and will notify you and relevant regulators of any data breach as required by law, including under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme in Australia.
International data transfers
Our service providers may process information in countries other than Australia, including the United States and member states of the European Union. Where information is transferred overseas, we take steps to ensure it receives an adequate level of protection, including using standard contractual clauses or providers certified under recognised frameworks such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as the Services evolve or the law changes. We will post the updated policy on this page and update the "last updated" date. If changes are significant, we will provide a more prominent notice in the app or by email before the changes take effect.
